What seems to be the major motivating factor(s) for people that are affected by an eating disorder?
- The major motivating factor for people that are affected by an eating disorder seems to be the public media such as television, internet and/or newspaper. The models that come out on televisions or internet advertisements are those with perfect, beautiful, skinny bodies that are attractive. It is only these kind of people that gets attention and fame whilst those with fat bodies are ignored and excluded in the society. As a result, average people, mostly girls, who seek for this beauty and fame which is mostly inherited. For normal people, it is almost impossible to have those kind of bodies that the model has. But nevertheless, people don’t know that and they just stop eating in order to lose weight. Although after some time they’ve lost quite of bit of weight, to them, in their eyes, they still look fat and they keep on not eating. They purposely puke all the things that they eat right after they eat it. Eventually, those people get an eating disorder because they didn’t eat for such a long time and they keep on not eating because they still think that they are fat.
What might be the social/political implications for there being a gay gene?
- There would be numbers of social/political implications for there being a gay gene. If being homosexual is something that we get inherited, there should be laws to protect these people from all the rights and freedoms that straight people have. Laws should be able to protect these people from those who hate gay or lesbian people. A social problem that might emerge for there being a gay gene is that there might be a discrimination of gay/lesbian people, therefore a separation or isolation of the group. Also, if gay genes exist, we should question Darwin’s theory of ‘survival of the fittest’. Since gay/lesbian people don’t reproduce, how can they fit into the theory of the ‘survival of the fittest’? Clearly, gay genes might cause many implications in both socially and politically.
1. Are we, as some might say, motivated by a desire to save our off-spring?
2. Must there always be some sort of intrinsic reward for doing good?
3. Mr. Otis once said, "That having integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching." If this is so, and no one knows when we have done good, would you still do good?
4. "Delayed reciprocal altruism", seems like a gamble - back to game theory, any way. Does this seem to make sense to you. That is that we act out of a desire to have what we have done being done to us?
5. Are we ever being truly "selfless" when committing an act of altruism?
1. Yes, we are motivated by a desire to save our off-spring. As the theory of evolution states, we are capable of doing anything in order to protect ourselves and survive and reproduce. So everything that we do, we are basically doing to reproduce, thus saving our off-spring.
2. There must not always be some sort of intrinsic reward for doing good because our selfless behaviors, according to the website, is driven to hide our selfish minds and ambitions.
3. I think we would still good even when no one is there to watch me do that good deed and compliment me because of self pride and neurochemical rewards. After you do the good behavior, you will feel good about yourself. Also, you might tell people what you did.
4. I think delayed reciprocal altruism works in some cases, but doesn’t work in other cases. Sometimes, you donate clothes and other materials not because you feel bad and sorry for the poor, but because you want to get rid of those old clothes and other materials that you don’t need. However, other times, you just simply feel sorry and bad for the poor and you donate stuff.
5. I don’t think we are being truly “selfless” when committing an act of altruism because when you do a good behavior, it is from your ambition to affirm you a sense of power and control. Also, sometimes it is because you want to feel a sense of pride towards yourself.

2. Can any one of those fit in more than one area? If so, where else could they fit and why?
- car should fit into both safety/security and esteem because you need it for safety since traveling by feet all the time would be harmful to your body. Also, you need it for esteem, because if you own an expensive, luxurious car, your self esteem would go up.
3. Generate three other needs that you believe are important. Those needs must fit in two or more categories of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. (Note: Your responses to the above should be short and concise. Make reference to an example to support your reason for placing the need where you did.)
- Confidence, should be one of them because confidence makes you do things without any fear and it helps you to enhance yourself. Communication is another one because you need it to talk with people and get close with them. Lastly, Technology should be included since you need it to communicate with the outer world and get updated with latest news.
